Are We "A Society of Consumers?"
Reflection:Sometimes people but the latest model of one product because the old product has been stopped to produce. I think it is because the seller has foreseen that few people want to buy old products in this market. In that case, even some people they try to object consumerism, the market and the society would make these customers to get used to the quick upgrading of all kinds of products.
People should reconsider the necessity of a product before they buy it. However, sometimes people's need and desire grow together. Given the example of the coat, people need coat when they feel cold and they want the cold to be beautiful, Another common example is electronic products. Ten years ago, people only need cellphone for contacting people. Nowadays, they need cellphone for the function as camera and various entertainment application. Sometimes people come to realize that they need the product when they are getting used to the advantages of it.

I think America is a typical society of consumers. People put much emphasis on material success. People work hard to produce more goods, then they use the money they earn to consume more goods. Every coin has two sides, consumerism also does. The original city is gone. The downtown becomes empty and is not as lively as it was before. More and more shopping centers and factory open in the urban area. The most importantly, the fast consuming life pace indicates that nothing could last forever. Products change quickly with technology innovation. The product we used represented the culture at that time. When certain kind of product becomes no longer popular, the culture also fades away.
We learn to consume when we are influenced by the value system of the society. People pursue material success. We are also influenced by the media, the television, the radio, and all kinds of advertisement around us. The external environment invoke us the internal desire for new and fancy products. Personally, I think it is hard to resist the consumer temptation because it takes long time to form one's value system or to change it. People want to consume more because they consider enjoying more goods as their motivations for work. Consumerism is deeply implanted in the culture of American society and it is hard to change the ways people think. To improve the current situation, media, government, education institution, or parents, should all emphasize the pursuit of spirit meeting, emotional satisfaction and knowledge. We are not working to live. We live to work. We work not only for financial payback, but also for a sense of achievement, for contribution to the society and the people we love, for embracing our life.
